Viewing ('View' CD): To view the pictures on this CD, open the VMPix.htm file found in this directory in your Internet browser. There will be a menu to the left of all reels scanned. Click on the desired reel, and you will see a web page at the right of the menu. You can scroll through the scanned pictures on the reel. If your browser does not support frames, you will have to select the pages which contains each reel by going into the 'Pages' directory. I can add more pages to the menu when you send me more reels to be scanned. Printing ('Print CD'): When and if you get ready to print these pictures, there are a few things to keep in mind. Typically these scans will not be appropriate for pictures larger than 5" x 7" (4" x 6" may be best for some pictures). Occassionally, I find some that will do alright for as large as 6" x 6.5". Another thing to keep in mind is that the pictures are almost square. A 4" x 6" will either have blank space on either side of the picture or it will be cropped. I suggest that you tell the printer (if you have a professional do it) not to crop at least the first time so you can see the whole picture with nothing edited out. You may also want to cut down on the black space on either side of the picture. Also note that the images corners' will be curved. You can't do anything about that unless you manually crop out a large portion of the picture (this is tedius). Print the TIF not the smaller JPEG All the tif's can be found on the 'Print' CD and in the Print directory of the 'View CD' under the main directory. Some pictures may be duplicated if I scanned them twice (so be aware of this if you don't want two copies of the same pictures). Typically, I number the picture (for example) 0001P2R.Tif (1st reel, Picture 2, Right Frame). If I scan it again it will be Tif1P2Rb.Tif. Sometimes if I rescan, I may chose to scan the other stereo frame, and the rescan in this case will be Tif1P2L.Tif. (Don't print the JPG files they are not as good in quality.) Note: Sometimes I can't remove all of the dirt or stains off pictures. Tampering with the color, contrast, darkness, and other properties of scans will usually comprimize the quality of the printed picture; therefore, I copy the scans without altering their properties. Before you print, you may want to print some of the pictures darker or lighter, or you may want to alter the contrast. Trash Directory: In the Trash directory, I included scans of your reels that I didn't use in the presentation. These pictures are scans that I felt I needed to redo. Archiving: I recommend that you make at least one more copy of your CD to keep in another location (I keep mine at work). I will keep at least one copy as well. It's also a good idea to keep the original Viewmaster slides. Besides the originals will probably always be best. Don't overlook the great qualities of 3D. You may eventually want both frames copied if you didn't have them both copied in the first place.
